Nov. 11, 2022

Nov. 11, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! Enjoy these next two days. They’re going to be great!

Today we will have winds from the east around 5 mph and seas on the south side 1-2 feet (.3 to .6 meters) under mostly clear skies.

Tonight winds will be 15 mph and seas at 3 feet (1 meter).

Tomorrow should continue nice with winds 5-10 mph and seas at 2 feet.

Saturday night into Sunday we will pick up more clouds and a better chance of rain. Sunday looks like a pretty calm day. Next week looks like good chances of rain, especially Wednesday and Thursday. Have a great Friday!

Nov. 10, 2022

Nov. 10, 2022: Good morning, Roatan. The rain just kept on coming yesterday and overnight. West Bay got half an inch yesterday and another half inch overnight. Sandy Bay got about a quarter of an inch yesterday, Coral View got .77 of an inch, Punta Blanca got an inch, Politilly got .79 and we got half an inch on Jonesville Point.

Today, clouds are moving out to sea and we will be mostly sunny, though there are some showers to our northwest that could give us a chance of a shower around midday. Winds will be from the west around 15 mph and seas at 3 feet (1 meter) mostly on the north side.

Tomorrow winds will switch around from the southeast at 5 mph during the day and 15 mph at night under clear skies and seas at 2 feet (.6 meters) mostly on the southside.

Saturday there will be a chance of an early morning shower with daytime winds at 5-10 mph from the east and nighttime winds at 15 mph and seas still at 2 feet.

Sunday the chance of rain goes back up. Next week looks pretty rainy, especially the latter part of the week. Have a great day!

Nov. 9, 2022

Nov. 9, 2022: Good morning, Roatan. The heavens definitely opened up overnight. Leo Weiss in Punta Blanca picked up 3.81 and here on Jonesville Point we got just over 2 inches, Politilly got well over 3 inches, Coral View about an inch, and Sandy Bay, West End and West Bay all got over two inches. It looks like most of the rain has moved to our east, but we will keep a chance of rain throughout the day, with partly cloudy skies, west/northwest winds at 12-17 mph and seas at 3 feet (1 meter).

Tomorrow, winds will continue at 15 mph from the west with 2-3 foot seas. There will be a smaller chance of rain, mostly in the morning.

Friday into the weekend, winds should calm to 5-10 mph from the east, but seas should stay in the 2 foot range, especially on the south side. Rain chances increase again around midweek next week. Have a great Wednesday!

Nov. 8, 2022

Nov. 8, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! Yesterday evening, we had a quarter of an inch of rain on Jonesville Point. Sandy Bay also had a quarter of an inch. Many other locations got less or none at all. A few locations have picked up a small shower this morning.

Today we will have periods of sun and clouds with west winds increasing to around 15 mph and seas to 2 feet (.6 meters). Chances of rain will increase through the day and there is a very good chance of getting a heavy shower overnight and tomorrow morning.

Chances of rain will decrease during the day tomorrow with partly cloudy skies and winds from the northwest around 10 mph.

On Wednesday, winds will be from the west at 15 mph and seas at 3 feet with a small chance of rain during the day.

Thursday through the weekend, winds should be fairly calm with seas 1-2 feet. Chances of rain will be low and mostly overnight and early in the morning. The latest models show the norther not making it this far south next week. Have a great Tuesday!

Nov. 7, 2022

Nov. 7, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! Today we awake to clear skies and calm winds and seas. Expect those beautiful conditions to last through today. Tomorrow expect west winds to 15 mph, 2 foot seas (.6 meters), increasing clouds and an increasing chance of rain as the day goes along. Heaviest rain should be Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Decent rain chances and west winds last into Thursday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday look calm and clear. The next norther is now forecast for next Monday or Tuesday. Have a great week!

Nov. 6, 2022

Nov. 6, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! This morning North America moved an hour backwards, so we are now in the same time zone as Houston and New Orleans and one hour behind Miami, New York and Toronto.

Last night was got a shower right at nightfall on Jonesville Point that gave us about a tenth of an inch. As far as I can tell, I was the only one. If you had a shower, please let me know in comments.

Today we will have mostly clear skies with east winds around 10 mph and seas at 2 feet. Tomorrow will be nice and calm.

I am posting the tropical outlook that gives Florida a good chance of getting a tropical storm. This won’t directly affect us, but it will indirectly affect us. It may pull stronger westerly winds our direction on Tuesday, around 15-20 mph, and we have a good chance of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. Westerly winds continue through Thursday and after a calmer Friday and Saturday, there is some indication we may get a norther Sunday evening into Monday, but it is too early to be certain. Have a great Sunday!

Good morning, Roatan! Just for fun, I thought I would show you the remnants of Lisa in the Gulf of Mexico. They are forecast to disappear in the next day or so and have no impact on our weather.

Our beautiful weather continues, with moderate winds at 10 mph during the day and 15 mph at night from the east and 2 foot seas, especially on the south side. Those conditions should continue under mostly clear skies until Monday, when the weather gets even calmer with winds 5-10 mph and near-flat seas Monday and Tuesday. Winds turn to the west Wednesday with a decent chance of rain. A norther is in the forecast for next weekend, but have a great weekend with the beautiful weather for the next four days!

Rainfall for October 2022

We had quite a range of rainfall totals on the island in October. On Jonesville Point we only got a little over 6 inches, but West End got over 19 inches!

We generally use Sandy Bay as our official island rain gauge and they had 12. 08 inches. That is a little less than our island average of 16.41. We are now into November which has the highest monthly average of the year at 17.4 inches. Right now the first week looks relatively dry, but we have a little system coming the middle of next week and perhaps one behind that and, as you know, rain can add up quickly. Have a great month!

Nov. 4, 2022

Nov. 4, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! Most of us saw a light shower around nightfall last night, though for most of us it was a tenth of an inch or less, however Coral View picked up a quarter of an inch.

Today, Saturday and Sunday look mostly sunny with only a very small chance of a shower and daytime winds at 10 mph from the east and nighttime winds at 15 mph. Seas should be 2 feet through Sunday, then Monday things get calmer. Wednesday a system may come through giving us rain and westerly winds. Have a great Friday!

Nov. 3, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! In the end, no one saw more than an inch of rain on the island, and the west end generally saw less than half an inch. The east end generally got between half an inch and an inch between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. North of Belize City, almost 14 inches were recorded, so we were really fortunate.

This morning, Punta Blanca on the east side has already picked up a nice shower.

On our satellite at 5:30 a.m., you can see the center of Lisa just north of the Guatemala/Mexico border. It should make it to the Bay of Campeche and not be a direct factor in our weather anymore. I have marked in green an area of rain that may give us more showers this evening and overnight into tomorrow. Winds will be from the east 5-12 mph during the day and 12-17 mph at night.

Tomorrow afternoon looks nice, but showers may return Friday night into Saturday morning. The weekend looks nice and mostly dry with moderate east winds and seas 1-2 feet. The chance of a small norther may give us westerly winds and rainier weather toward the middle of next week. Have a great Thursday!
