Nov. 11, 2021

Nov. 11, 2021: Good morning Roatan! Yesterday we were socked in with low clouds and couldn’t get out of the rain. Pretty much everybody got a half inch, but Coral View and First Bight got a little over an inch.
Today we are back to partly cloudy skies and calm winds and seas. Today will be a beautiful day, much like Tuesday was.

Friday through Sunday we’ll have scattered showers under partly to mostly cloudy skies and calm seas and winds. This time the cold front is stalling north of us, so we won’t get the north winds we’ve gotten with the last few cold fronts.

Monday and Tuesday look very rainy right now. Enjoy this beautiful Thursday!

Nov. 10, 2021

Nov. 10, 2021: Good morning, Roatan! Most of us got a shower this morning around 5 a.m. Rain totals ranged from .65 of an inch in West Bay to a third of an inch in Sandy Bay, about a half inch at Coral View, but here on Lucy Point we only recorded .01.

This morning we have some low clouds that bring a chance of a shower through the morning. We’ll have north winds 5-10 mph and seas at 2 feet (.6 meter) on the north side. This afternoon should be partly cloudy. There’s a pretty good chance of a shower overnight tonight.

Tomorrow rain chances should be low, with light winds and seas at 1 foot (.3 meters)

Friday the chance of scattered showers goes back up and we’ll have a rain chance through the weekend, though winds and seas will remain fairly calm. Right now, Monday and Tuesday look particularly rainy. Have a great Wednesday!

Nov. 9, 2021

Nov. 9, 2021: Good morning, Roatan! We awoke to partly cloudy skies and the first sunshine we’ve had in a while. Radar shows a few showers west of Utila, but moving toward Puerto Cortes and away from us. The big news is we got down to 70 degrees (21 C), the coolest we’ve had all season. We are already at 81 (27 C) at 7 a.m., but the dewpoint is 68 (20 C), meaning the air is relatively dry and comfortable.

Today will be partly cloudy with north winds 7-12 mph and seas at 2 feet (.6 meters) on the north side.

Wednesday and Thursday winds and seas will be quite calm. Though temperatures will get in the mid-80s, dewpoints will stay fairly low, meaning that the air will feel light and fresh.

Rain returns Friday through the weekend, but it is looking like it will be less than what we experienced this past weekend. Have a great week!

Nov. 8, 2021

As you see in the photo, the wind and surf on the north side brought down the palapa at La Sireña in Camp Bay. I’m sure Jimmy Andrade and the crew will have it up and running in no time.

We have a wide range of rainfall from 6 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. today, but everyone got wet:
Utila just under 5 inches
West Bay 1.40
Sandy Bay .85
Mud Hole 1.00
Coral View 2.46
First Bight just over 3 inches
Politilly 2.63
Lucy Point 2.66
Camp Bay 2.50

Today we will have showers especially in the morning, but getting fewer as the day goes along. We’ll have mostly cloudy skies in the morning but should see more sun in the afternoon. Winds will be from the east/northeast at 10-15 mph and seas at 2-3 feet (.6 to 1 meter) on the north side.

Tomorrow we will have partly cloudy skies and nice conditions. There will be a small chance of a light shower and winds will be from the north at 5-10 mph and seas at 1-2 feet (.3 to .6 meters).

Wednesday and Thursday will be beautiful with fairly calm winds and seas and only a slight chance of a passing

Rain builds in Friday through the weekend as our next front approaches.

Nov. 7, 2021

Nov. 7, 2021: Most rain totals overnight were light. We got .06 of an inch around 3 a.m. Yesterday, many of us picked up a downpour around midday. Utila has had about an inch in the last 24 hours. This morning there are scattered showers on radar, mostly to our west.

We’ll have partly cloudy skies and scattered showers today. Winds will be from the north/northwest 7-12 mph and seas at 3 feet (1 meter) especially on the north side. There’s a pretty good chance of rain overnight tonight.

Tomorrow and through the midweek our rain chances go down. Monday we will have north winds 12-17 mph and seas will stay a bit choppy on the north side, but starting Tuesday we will have picture-perfect weather — mostly clear skies, comfortable temperatures, light winds, calmer seas and a very low chance of a passing shower.

Next weekend is looking pretty stormy as another cold front comes near. This is getting to be a cycle of weekend rain and weekday nice weather, but I’m not complaining.

Nov. 6, 2021

Nov. 6, 2021: Good morning Roatan! Many of us woke up to a downpour. Larry Rapp in West Bay reports 1.9 inches overnight as of 7 a.m. Coral View got 1.27 inches. We got nearly a half inch on Lucy Point and Jimmy Andrade in Camp Bay got about 1.6 inches, most of it this morning in one squall.

Today we will continue to have scattered showers as winds increase out of the north/northwest to 15-20 mph. The computers say the seas on the north side should be 5 feet by nightfall (1.6 meters). I’m a little doubtful it will be that bad, but be ready for at least 4 feet.

Tomorrow we will have scattered light showers with north winds 12-17 mph and continued 4-foot (1.3 meter) waves on the north side.

Monday and Tuesday look like nice days with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies, much calmer north winds and seas at 2-3 feet.

Most of next week should have less rain than last week did, but the rainfall will start get heavier next weekend as another cold front approaches. It seems we are in that sort of pattern, but it is a lot better than heat and drought. Have a great weekend!

Nov. 5, 2021

Nov. 5, 2021: Good morning Roatan! We awoke to scattered clouds and the radar shows scattered showers to the west, around Utila. Today we will have scattered showers with west/northwest winds 10-15 mph and seas 1-2 feet.

Tomorrow we’ll have a very good chance of rain throughout the day as our front passes through. Winds will be brisk, 15-22 mph from the north. Seas will start out the morning around 3 feet (1 meter), and end the day at 4-5 feet (1.3 to 1.5 meters), especially on the north side, so be careful out there.

Sunday the rain chances come down but winds stay up at around 15-20 mph from the north and seas remain around 4 feet (1.3 meters).

The first part of next week will be partly cloudy with occasional light rain or mist and quite fresh temperatures. Have a great Friday!

Nov. 4, 2021

Nov. 4, 2021: Good morning, Roatan! This morning the west side of the island got rain — half an inch in West Bay, .87 at SOL in Sandy Bay, .92 at Casa Mariposa Azul in Sandy Bay, but only small amounts further east.
I know all of this thanks to Claro, and no thanks to Max which has been out for 14 HOURS! Their only response has been “the node in the sector has been affected,” whatever that means.
We’ll have a chance of rain today, mostly in the morning under partly cloudy skies. Winds will be from the west today at 7-12 mph and seas at 1-2 feet (.3 to .6 meters).

Tonight and tomorrow morning we’ll have another good chance of rain. Tomorrow the winds will be from the north/northwest at 10-15 mph and seas at 2-3 feet (.6 to 1 meter).

Saturday may be quite rainy as a cold front approaches from the north. Seas may get up a bit too, into the 4 foot (1.3 meter) range.
Behind the front on Sunday we’ll have north winds 15-20 mph, a chance of light rain and cool temperatures.
Have a great Thursday!

Nov. 3, 2021

Nov. 3, 2021: Good morning, Roatan. We’ve had a very Roatan sort of rain, the kind that comes mostly at night. We picked up 3.25 inches on Lucy Point since yesterday morning, which is the highest total I’ve found on the island. West Bay picked up .90 and Utila’s had about an inch. Most locations mid-island had about 2 inches.
We missed out on the rain during the day yesterday because it was mostly north of us.

Today we are in the midst of the storm system and will have a chance of rain throughout the day. Winds may pick up a bit from the southwest this afternoon.

Tomorrow the rain will be more widely scattered, so our chance of rain will go down to around 40 percent with northwest winds at 7-12 mph. Rain chances go back up to around 70 percent Friday and Saturday. A cold front should come on Sunday with more rain, north winds and cool temperatures. Have a great Wednesday!

Nov. 2, 2021

Nov. 2, 2021: Good morning, Roatan! We all woke up to a nice steady rain and cool temperatures. Most of us received between a quarter and a half inch of rain by 7 a.m. and that’s just the beginning. The satellite shows that the majority of the rain is still to our east and will move over us today. We will have fairly light northwest winds around 5-10 mph. Tomorrow the rain continues, though I don’t expect it to be quite as much as today. Winds will continue fairly light and will vary in their direction.

Wednesday may be the day this week we see the most sun and the least rain, though there will still be a good chance of scattered showers. Those rain chances persist into Sunday, when a cold front should approach. If it passes through we will have a nice, cool, dry Monday, though that isn’t a sure thing at this point. Have a great Tuesday!
