March 2, 2022

March 2, 2022: The rain-cooled air gave us a very cool night. Several of us got down to 69 degrees, just 3 degrees from our island’s all-time low of 66. Most of us got between 1 and 2 inches yesterday, but most of us have been dry between midnight and 7 a.m.

Today we will have a chance of rain, especially in the morning with northeast winds 5-10 and seas at 1-2 feet (.3 to .6 meters). If you get some rain, enjoy it. It will probably be the last you see for some time.

Tomorrow through Saturday should be gorgeous days with very light winds and pretty calm seas and little to no rain.

Starting Sunday we get the trade winds back, with east winds 15-20 mph and continued dry conditions into the start of next week.

The computers want to bring the rain back in mid-March, but that is a long way off. We’ll see. Have a great Wednesday!

March 1, 2022

March 1, 2022: Good morning, Roatan and welcome to March! We’ve had a wet start, with 3 inches in the last 24 hours as of 7 a.m. midisland at Coral View. Sandy Bay, West Bay and West End have all recorded about 2.25 inches. On the east side, Politilly and Punta Blanca are both a little under an inch. Sadly, my Acurite 5-in-1 decided to die, so I am currently unable to say how much rain I’ve had in Jonesville Point, but an inch sounds about right and at 7 a.m. we’re getting a downpour.

Chances of rain continue today, tonight and tomorrow, especially in the morning. Wednesday looks a little rainier than I originally thought and perhaps a little windier. Winds today will be northwest 5-10 mph with seas 1-2 feet (.3 to .6 meters). Tomorrow they will be from the northeast at 10-15 mph and seas at 2 feet. Of course, when a rain squall comes the winds get gustier.

Thursday through Saturday look gorgeous, with light winds, fairly calm seas and dry conditions.

Our easterly trade winds return Sunday with dry conditions continuing. Have a great Tuesday!

Feb. 28, 2022

Feb. 28, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! Most of us got a little under an inch of rain in the last 24 hours ending 7 a.m.

Today looks a lot like yesterday, with periods of clouds and periods of sun with occasional showers and relatively calm winds and seas. Most of the models give us the prospect of about half an inch today and tonight.

Tomorrow looks a lot like today, though perhaps the chance of rain goes down a bit.

Wednesday looks beautiful with mostly sunny skies and relatively calm winds and seas, though a chance of rain returns Wednesday overnight. Thursday through Saturday have very low chances of rain and winds and seas remaining fairly calm (1-2 feet).

East winds return Sunday.

Have a great week!

Feb. 27, 2022

Feb. 27, 2022: As of 7 a.m. many of us had picked up some morning showers. West Bay got half an inch and West End got .78 in what must have been a heavy downpour, because it came all at once. Sandy Bay got a quarter of an inch while Politilly got a half inch, as did Camp Bay.

Utila picked up half an inch yesterday morning, but it is likely they will pick up more from these showers as they head west.

Today a chance of rain will follow us through the day but there should also be periods of sun. Today will be the first of several fairly calm days, with winds from the northwest at 5-10 mph and seas at 2 feet (.6 meters).

Our chances of rain continue overnight and through the day tomorrow with west winds 5-10 mph and seas at 1-2 feet (.3 to .6 meters) especially on the north side. Rain chances continue through Wednesday morning, when most of the clouds clear out.

Wednesday afternoon through Saturday look like gorgeous boating days with low winds and low rain chances. Have a great Sunday!

Feb. 26, 2022

Feb. 26, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! There are some clouds between us and the mainland this morning and there will likely be some rain to the south of us at sea this morning. The question is will it make it as far north as the island. There is a chance, perhaps 30 percent.

Otherwise, today will be mostly sunny, especially in the afternoon, with east winds shifting to northeast at 10-15 mph and seas 2-3 feet (.6 to 1 meter).

Starting tomorrow, winds calm considerably, out of the northwest at 5-10 mph and seas at 1-2 feet (.3 to .6 meters). There will be about a 50 percent chance of rain throughout the day tomorrow.

Monday winds continue mild, from the west/northwest at 3-7 mph and seas at 1 foot (.3 meters). Rain chances continue around 50 percent, especially in the morning.

Tuesday has a chance to be our best rain day, with rain chances throughout the day and continued calm winds.

Wednesday through Friday we will continue with the calm winds and seas and rain chances around 30 percent each night and early morning. Have a great weekend!

Feb. 25, 2022

Feb. 25, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! We had a shower around 10:30 a.m. yesterday that brought about a quarter of an inch. The satellite at 8 a.m. today looks much clearer.

We will have mostly sunny skies today with east winds 12-17 mph and seas at 3 feet (1 meter).

Late tonight and early tomorrow morning we will have a decent chance of seeing a shower. We should have mostly sunny skies by afternoon with winds around 15 mph and seas at 3 feet.

Sunday winds will shift to the northwest at 7-12 mph and we will have seas at 2 feet (.6 meter) and a chance of a morning shower.

Monday into the following week we will have light winds with chances of occasional showers. Have a great Friday!

Feb. 23, 2022

Feb. 23, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! As you can see on the satellite, at 8:30 this morning clouds were moving in from the east, so we can’t eliminate a chance of a shower this morning, but any rain should be brief and not amount to much. Otherwise, especiallyl this afternoon, we will have mostly sunny skies with east winds 15 mph increasing to 20 mph at nightfall and seas around 3 feet (1 meter). Tomorrow we will keep a small chance of a passing shower and east winds 12-17 mph and seas 2-3 feet. Friday looks similar.

Saturday we begin a change in the weather pattern, with better chances of rain each day (40-50 percent) and calmer winds and seas starting Sunday. Those conditions should continue into the next week.

Have a great Wednesday!

Feb. 22, 2022

Feb. 22, 2022: Good 2-22-22 to everybody. Looks like we had a dry 24 hours as of 7:30 a.m. this morning.

We are currently catching a gust on the southside, but those winds should calm to around 10-15 mph with 3 foot seas today and get up to 20 mph with 4 foot seas tonight. Only a small chance of a passing shower tonight.

Tomorrow winds will be from the east 15-20 mph and 20-23 mph overnight with only a small chance of an overnight shower.

Thursday and Friday look dry as well, with typical easterly trade winds.

There will be a better chance of scattered showers this weekend and the first of next week looks like it will have a decent chance of rain and calmer winds and seas. Have a great Tuesday!

Feb. 21, 2022

Feb. 21, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! Many of us have gotten a brief shower at some point. Politilly got .07 of an inch around 3 a.m. Here on Jonesville Point we got about a tenth of an inch around noon yesterday while Coral View got a quarter of an inch around the same time. Sandy Bay got a little under a tenth of an inch yesterday.

Today there will be about a 20 percent chance of a passing shower with mostly sunny skies and winds from the east at 15 mph and seas at 3 feet. Tonight the rain chance goes up to 30 percent.

Tomorrow the winds, seas and rain chances will be about the same, but Wednesday through Friday look even drier with winds to around 20 mph and seas at 4 feet.

Scattered showers return for this weekend and the first of next week looks a little wetter. Have a great week!

Feb. 20, 2022

Feb. 20, 2022: Good morning, Roatan! Our chance of overnight showers never materialized, but there is still a chance of a passing shower today. That chance of rain will continue overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow. Most of the time, it will be sunny, though, with winds from the east/northeast at 15-20 mph and seas at 3 feet (1 meter). Tomorrow winds will be from the east 12-17 mph and seas at 3 feet. Rain chances will be minimal Tuesday and we can probably take rain out of the forecast for Wednesday through Friday. Our east winds 15-20 mph will continue through the period.

Have a great Sunday!
