Good morning Bay Islands. Our photo of the day showing the canal between Oakridge and Oakridge Key from Jackie Taylor is quite appropriate because, ladies and gentlemen, we have a new all-time record low for Roatan. Just a few bays over in Carib Bight near Juticalpa we had an all-time record low of 62.2 (16.8C). I almost wouldn’t believe it, but the Jonesville station recorded a low of 62.6 which would have tied our previous all-time record on Feb. 22, 2024. And it wasn’t just a low in a momentary downpour. Our low humidity meant that our cool temperatures lasted all the way from nearly midnight until right around sunrise. Our temperature has shot up into the upper 70s, but it is quite comfortable out there and a beautiful day.

On satellite at 8:30 a.m. we see mostly clear skies out there and we will have a mostly sunny day with very little chance of a shower. Tomorrow looks much like today. Thursday we have a wave of moisture moving over our islands and we will have scattered showers that day. After perhaps a morning shower Friday, we look mostly sunny through the weekend.

This map shows the air mass above our heads, about a mile up. Blues and cooler than normal and reds are warmer than normal. This is the most persistent I’ve ever seen cooler weather sit on top of us. We should be quite comfortable with cool night (not records like this morning, but 69 or 70) and pleasant days in the upper 70s to around 80. Warmer and more humid conditions (normal for the islands) return on Sunday. We no longer have buoys that do live readings of sea temperatures, but satellite observation puts sea surface temperatures around 79 degrees. By contrast, in the heat of summer we’ve been hitting around 86 degree sea temps. Those of you who have been in the water, please give me your observations in a comment.
Wind and wave forecast: Winds this morning are light and variable and seas are 2 feet. Winds will remain light through Thursday and seas around 2 feet. Friday we start seeing the easterly trades get a little stronger, but only 10-15 mph.
