Good morning Bay Islands. Our photo of the day comes from Phil Sikora, who found a cloud that looks like a UFO. If you like it enough it may be enough to earn him a free trip to Guanaja on the Galaxy Wave.
Today and tomorrow look likely to be dry, while starting Thursday night into the weekend rain chances go up.

We start with the 7 a.m. satellite. We see a few popcorn clouds moving from east to west, so a very small chance of a small shower this morning.

The reason I say rain chances are low today and tomorrow is that we have drier air overhead. Of course the drier air is higher in the atmosphere, so it is still hot and humid at the surface. Starting Thursday night into the weekend the thicker moist air is moving in and will give us better chances of rain, especially overnight and in the mornings. Next week looks a bit drier as well.

There are no potential tropical storms in the Atlantic or Caribbean and I ran across an interesting graphic that may explain why. For as long as records have been kept, the number of hurricanes steadily rises until peaking in August. But since 1995, as shown in this chart, there has been a change. There is a mini-peak in late June/early July, about the same time as we were dealing with Hurricane Beryl. Then there is a lull in late July before picking up again, reaching a peak at the end of August. I have no doubt we will be watching for tropical storms in a couple of weeks.

Wind and Galaxy Wave forecast: We wake up to 10 mph east winds and seas at 2 feet south side. Today looks pretty calm, with 10 mph east winds and seas down to 1 foot midday and afternoon. Tomorrow east winds will be 15 mph and seas 1-2 feet. Friday into the weekend east winds will be 15-20 mph and seas 2-3 feet.

The Number 1 question tourists ask when planning their trip to the island is “Will rain ruin my visit?” They look at their weather app and see 40-50 percent chances of rain and think it might rain all day. You locals usually set them straight with the truth. Rains this time of the year are just passing showers and the sun will come out soon. If you are planning your trip to the island, never fear. The folks at Jolly Roger Roatan will help you dodge the showers and get you on your way to a sunny excursion.

Low tide is at noon. Have a great Wednesday!
